Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural by Mary Kocol is from The Ice Gardens series, which intersects gardening, photography, and ice candles.

“The blossoms are collected from gardens of friends, family, and my own, then frozen into ice plates and photographed in sunlight to reveal fanciful and ephemeral constructions,” Kocol says. “Blooms and ice are temporary. The photograph becomes the permanent art object – the record that they once briefly existed.”
