Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural by Amy Hitchcock is an assemblage with vintage found photo, buttons, and assorted millinery flowers.

“Prudence (the character in the assemblage) needed to lighten up, so her imaginary friend Emily made her a beautiful hat of flowers,” Hitchcock says. “Little did Emily know that Prudence suffers from seasonal allergies.”

Hitchcock is a mixed media artist who started making assemblages in 2001 soon after she discovered the work of Joseph Cornell. She teaches at the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain.
