Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural by Sarah Iwany draws inspiration from a neighborhood in Boston. Allston is named for the artist Washington Allston, but it’s also acquired the name “Allston Rat City” due to the rodent problem.
“My work represents the modern connotation of Allston through painting a portrait of its namesake,” Iwany says.
Iwany is from Bedford, MA and currently resides in Allston. She graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in biology and a minor in visual arts.
