Arguably the most famous Korean artist in modern history, Nam June Paik was a pillar of the American avant-garde, widely regarded as “The George Washington of Video Art,” and coined the phrase “Electronic Superhighway.” He was artist-in-residence at GBH, beginning in 1968, where he created his first production for television broadcast and invented his video synthesizer. This documentary charts his artistic evolution: his formative education in Munich, rise in the New York art scene and Nostradamus-like visions of a future in which “everybody will have his own TV channel.”

Watch Nam June Paik: Moon is the Oldest TV on AMERICAN MASTERS, tonight at 9pm on GBH 2.
