Is there anything as luscious as a sweet, ripe, juicy peach at the height of summer? Peaches, along with cherries, plums, and apricots, are stone fruits, or drupes. The fleshy outer fruit surrounds a single large seed encased in hard wood called the “stone” or “pit”. It was President Ronald Reagan who proclaimed August “Peach Month” and called upon the people of the United States to incorporate this nutritious fruit into their diets and celebrate this month with appropriate programs and activities. Consider it done!
