Following a historic and consequential presidential election, GBH News and the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus invite you to gather at GBH in Brighton for a look beyond the election results. Hear from three women who each achieved a historic “first” when they won their seats in Massachusetts political offices.

GBH News Politics Editor Azita Ghahramani moderates a discussion with Jane Swift, former MA Governor; Sonia Chang- Díaz, former MA State Senator; and Kim Janey, former Boston Mayor and City Councilor, District 7. Hear about their experiences as leaders in local politics and get their take on the election outcomes.

Former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift is the President of Education at Work the premiere work-based learning non-profit serving higher education in the country. Swift has served in leadership roles in the public, private, political, and non-profit sectors for over three decades fueled by a passionate belief in the power of education to transform lives.

Kim Michelle Janey is the president & CEO of Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath), a national nonprofit organization, based in Boston, dedicated to helping families living in poverty to dramatically improve their economic mobility. In 2021, Janey made history when she was sworn in as Boston’s first woman and first Black mayor, successfully leading the city through a multitude of unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Sonia Chang-Díaz is the first Latina and first Asian-American elected to the Massachusetts State Senate, where she served for 14 years. During that time Sonia wrote, championed, and won landmark education funding reforms to provide $1.5 billion annually in new aid to K-12 districts across the state.
