On Monday, TV historian Bob Thompson joined Boston Public Radio to lend his thoughts on the sci-fi thriller “Devs,” currently streaming on Hulu.
Thompson called the show “very stylized, very weird and thought provoking, [and] at the same time… way too long."
The eight-episode miniseries, which stars Nick Offerman from "Parks and Recreation,” centers around a bizarre, ultra-secret science lab and its role in a mysterious death.
"Nick Offerman runs this big high tech [lab] which has figured out that the entire universe is deterministic, and you can ultimately have a fancy enough program to predict how every single thing in the universe will behave… it’s an interesting concept,” Thompson explained.
"I don’t think it needs the full eight episodes to be told, but it still gets my best of the week because it’s kind of peculiar."
Bob Thompson is the founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture and a Trustee Professor of Television and Popular Culture at the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
