What compels the devotees of to keep the old-time faith? How did the promise of discovery become a siren’s call to men of science? What is it in Mussorgsky’s compositions that inspires visual art? This week Jared Bowen talks with Morning Edition host Bob Seay about three new events around town that explore these questions through both extremely comedic and dramatic performance.

The Book of Mormon, presented by Broadway in Boston at the Boston Opera House, through April 28th.

The creators of the television show South Park, and the Tony Award–winning Best Musical Avenue Q, bring you the Broadway musical that swept the Tonys and that Jon Stewart of The Daily Show describes as, “a crowning achievement, so good it makes me angry”. With near impossible-to-get tickets, Book of Mormon is one of the city’s most buzzed-about shows in ages.

Operation Epsilon, a world premiere presented by the Nora Theatre Company at Central Square Theater through April 28th.

As World War II comes to a close, the Allies have captured Germany’s top ten nuclear scientists and keep them under surveillance to learn what they know about the American nuclear program and to gauge how close the Nazis were to making an atomic bomb. Nine of these men are known as Hitler’s “Uranium Club.” Based on actual transcripts of secretly recorded conversations, playwright Alan Brody illuminates the ethical complexity of pursuing scientific discovery at the risk of wreaking catastrophic consequences. This a fantastic world premiere that audiences should flock to.

Pictures at an Exhibition, in conjunction withthe BSO performance on April 12 and 13 is a show of paintings on viewat Symphony Hall through April 13th.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Copley Society of Art have joined forces to curate an exhibit of 32 new paintings throughout Symphony Hall.
