Executive Producer and Showrunner of Rooted

Tyree Rush is the Executive Producer and Showrunner of Rooted, GBH’s multiplatform series exploring the Black experience through culture, history, politics, and the issues shaping everyday life. Previously known as Basic Black and, before that, Say Brother, the series has been a home for Black storytelling at GBH for more than half a century. Tyree now leads its latest evolution across television, digital, radio, and podcasting.
An award-winning writer, producer, and director from Atlanta, Tyree has spent more than a decade bouncing between nearly every corner of media—sometimes on purpose. He began his career producing six hours of live radio a day before making the extremely reasonable decision to try television instead.
His career has since taken him through CNN, CBS News, Atlanta News First, and MSNBC, where he worked across news programming, special events, and launches including Deadline: White House and The Beat with Ari Melber. He later moved into entertainment management and development at 3 Arts Entertainment before producing projects including The Amber Ruffin Show, The Read with Kid Fury & Crissle, Yo! MTV Raps, The Nightcap with Carlos King, Revolt Black News, Dish Nation, and more. He has also held creative and development roles at Verizon Media and AMC, working on projects ranging from short-form digital series to feature films.
That somewhat suspiciously varied résumé reflects Tyree’s approach to storytelling: news, comedy, politics, entertainment, and culture aren't separate universes, and audiences don't experience them that way.
