**Kara Yopak** is an assistant professor at University of North Carolina Wilmington. She focuses on the comparative neuroanatomy of sharks, batoids, and chimaerids. She previously worked as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Western Australia, where she researched the evolution of neural systems, particularly how brains have diversified within some of the earliest vertebrate groups, namely sharks, skates, rays, and chimaerids.
