Elizabeth Clay Roy is the CEO of Generation Citizen, a national nonpartisan organization partnering with schools nationwide to offer youth the civic knowledge and skills they need to actively participate in our democracy. Prior to joining Generation Citizen, Elizabeth was Executive Director of TakeRoot Justice, Chief of Staff at Phipps Neighborhoods and Deputy Director of Opportunity Nation, working to advance economic and educational opportunity and grassroots democracy. She began her career working in participatory planning in India and serving Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick as a Policy Advisor and the Director of Grassroots Governance. In 2022, she received the EBONY Power 100 and Black Voices for Black Justice Awards, and in 2023, the 1954 Charles Hamilton Houston Beacon Award, all to recognize the power and potential of real-world democracy education to advance an inclusive, multi-racial democracy.
