Professor Ryan C. Martin, Ph.D, is a leading expert in anger management and emotional wellness. He is the author of How to Deal with Angry People and Why We Get Mad: How to Use Your Anger for Positive Change, where he examines why people experience anger, how to channel it productively and how to effectively engage with others in emotionally charged situations - such as driving!
Trained as a counseling psychologist at the University of Southern Mississippi, Martin first began studying anger after earning his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of St. Thomas. His clinical work includes serving clients in community mental health centers, college counseling centers, and a VA hospital. He is Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and combines academic leadership with a commitment to public scholarship. His work has been featured by the NYT, NPR’s Invisibilia, BBC Radio’s Digital Human and other major media outlets. When not exploring the science of emotions, he enjoys running and spending time with his family.
