Dr. Joy Banneris a Louisiana-based activist, educator, and co-founder of The Descendants Project, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the land and legacy of Black descendant communities in the industrial "Cancer Alley." She works at the intersection of environmental justice and historic preservation to fight industrial pollution.
