It's nearly the end of 2024's "Sunshine Week," which was started by a group of newspaper editors in Florida a few years back and now highlights the importance of open public records and government transparency nationwide.

Here in Massachusetts, many political observers believe we could use a whole lot more sunshine, including the leaders of the progressive nonprofit Act On Mass, who argue in a recent CommonWealth Beacon op-ed that "2023 was a bad year for good governance on Beacon Hill."

Adam Reilly is joined by Act on Mass Executives Director Erin Leahy and Justin Silverman, the executive director of the New England First Amendment Coalition, who both see some cause for optimism locally despite an overall picture they describe as bleak.
