For the first time in more than four decades, incumbent Boston City Councilors failed to make it past the preliminary election. Ricardo Arroyo and Kendra Lara — whose campaigns were both mired in controversy — both came in at least 10 points behind the second-place finisher in their race, knocking them off of the general election ballot.
