A new matchmaking service is being developed for Americans “to find the ideal Canadian partner to save them from the unfathomable horror of a Trump presidency.” That’s according to the website for a company called Maple Match.

The dating app is being designed to connect singles looking for cross-border love. It’s not up and running yet, but eager beavers can sign up for early access when Maple Match launches.

The service’s founder is Joe Goldman, a 25-year-old education research and entrepreneur in Austin, Texas. He says his site is more than an anti-Trump political statement.

“I think the sense of urgency that’s been created by the Donald Trump candidacy has brought some interest to Maple Match, but ultimately Maple Match has just uncovered something that’s been there for a long time. Americans and Canadians have been really close together, both literally and culturally, and I think there is something to this.”

Today, nearly 25,000 singles have joined the dating service's waitlist. ”We have over 5,000 Canadians signed up and about 20,000 Americans,” says Goldman.

And Goldman is quick to point out that the app is a serious business venture. “Maple Match is not a prank. Maple Match is an idea and not everything that’s funny is a joke.”

At this point, it’s not clear whether the site will be free or offer paid subscription, but Goldman says the focus will be on making love connections.

“The decision to move to another country is a difficult one made between two people who love each other very much and ultimately decide on moving to Canada. Or maybe in some instances moving to the United States, is right for them.”

Goldman's ready to put his heart where his mouth is.

“I’m currently signed up for Maple Match. I’m the first person on the list.”
