Massachusetts’s annual 9/11 memorial focused on the local residents killed in the attack, many who were lost on the hijacked flights that departed Logan Airport that morning.
At the Beacon Hill ceremony, the names of Massachusetts men and women lost in the attacks were recited by loved ones as families of 9/11 victims gathered to commemorate the tragedy.
Gov. Charlie Baker reached out to victims’ kin — and recalled a photo of his own family from the summer of 2001 he keeps on his desk.
“Because it reminds me of the incredible loss that so many people suffered,” he said. “Sons and daughters lost a lifetime of moments to come … that could have been shared, that should have been shared, with their mom and dad.”
According to the Massachusetts 9/11 fund, 210 people with ties to the state died in the attacks.
