The Massachusetts State House renovation tab keeps growing.
Gov. Deval Patrick is spending $9 million to renovate his office. The state Senate has been working on plans to renovate its chamber for $20 million after getting an estimate from an architectural firm which found leaning columns and pieces falling from the ceiling. Now the House is jumping on board.
“We had a group of folks from the House, I can’t remember the business, wherever, wherever, who made an estimate,” said House Speaker Robert Deleo.
On Monday, the House quietly approved a $20 million renovation plan of its own, and Deleo was vague when asked how he came up with the number.
“We have a lot of repairs that need to be done, anywhere from the roof to the floor,” he said.
The renovations are included in a bond bill, which also includes many other earmarks.
