Mohegan Sun says efforts to reach an agreement with Boston Mayor Martin Walsh as the Connecticut company seeks to build a casino in neighboring Revere have been unsuccessful.

Mitchell Etess, CEO of Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, said a closed door meeting Wednesday was "productive." The two sides disagree whether Boston should be designated a "host" community with rights to vote on the casino plan or simply a "surrounding" community entitled to financial compensation.

State gambling regulators are expected to decide Thursday on the city's request to be named a host community for casino proposals in the state's eastern region.

Walsh's spokeswoman confirmed the two sides met but reached no agreement. She said the city's legal staff, not the mayor, will attend Thursday's hearing.

Wynn Resorts also has proposed a casino in Everett for the eastern Massachusetts license.
