Municipal utilities choice is not a partisan issue, and will be a decision made at the state level. The bill that died in the last session is likely to be put forth again next year. Its content has come up in various town and district debates statewide.

Only 41 of Massachusetts' 351 cities and towns distribute electricity themselves. The vast majority of state residents -- 85 percent -- are customers of NStar, National Grid, WMECO or Unitil. (Mass. Alliance for Municipal Energy Choice)
