With midterms quickly approaching, the Republicans' message has been clear, by centering on economy and crime. Democrats? Not so much. Politics experts on Greater Boston said Democrats should be responding to issues in their local communities to win over voters.

Raul Alvillar, former political director for the Democratic National Committee, said candidates should tell voters what they are going to do for them and to highlight democratic accomplishments with the economy, healthcare and jobs.

Steve Kerrigan, former CEO of the Democratic National Convention, said, "Everyone wants to wring hands about what we aren't doing when we should be using those hands to knock on doors." He added that Democrats need to be more bold and proud when it comes to significant issues like access to abortion.

Watch: What messaging are Democrats using to win over midterm voters? For many, it's unclear.
