House Republican leaders have appointed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican who support the QAnon conspiracy theory, to the House Education and Labor Committee.

"The idea that she shouldn't be expelled is insane," Former Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral told GBH's Boston Public Radio on Thursday. "Someone who holds these views, and who is this dangerous and disengaged from reality, should not be in a position of leadership, especially in the United States Congress."

Democrats have condemned Greene's committe assignment, citing her history ofracist comments and efforts to delegitimize school shootings.

Cabral said that Republican gerrymandering in Georgia enabled Greene's election.

"Someone like her should never have been elected to Congress," Cabral said. "It should surprise no one that she actively supports, if not advocates, the killing of the Speaker of the House."

Cabral is a weekly Boston Public Radio contributor. She's the former Suffolk County sheriff and former Massachusetts secretary of public safety. She's currently the CEO of the cannabis company Ascend.
