The strong nor’easter continued to slowly move toward the New Jersey coastline Sunday morning. We are on the northern side of the storm, with a moisture feed coming in off the Atlantic.
This feed has provided copious amounts of water for areas mostly south of the Mass Pike with lesser amounts further north and west.
There’s a big discrepancy between rainfall amounts with Norwood and Blue Hills over four, but in many other areas only one to two inches of rainfall so far.
The wind which was strong yesterday afternoon has now subsided. It will still be breezy throughout the day, especially along the coastline, but the power outage-strength winds are mostly over.
There will still be some pockets of minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide, but beach erosion is really the main issue with this particular storm rather than flooding.
The rainfall is going to continue throughout the day at various intensities. You may even hear the rumble of thunder. The rain will continue overnight tonight and into tomorrow.
You should expect a wet morning commute. It may be a bit less wet in the evening but there will still be the chance of showers.
Temperatures will reach the lower 60s today and tomorrow there’s actually a bit of humidity in the air because the moisture is coming in from the warmer part of the Atlantic so it doesn’t feel that chilly outside.
Tuesday features clouds with readings in the '60s before we return to more sunshine on Wednesday with temperatures reaching near or a little above 70 degrees.
One thing that’s meteorologically interesting about this particular storm is that it did take on some tropical characteristics. This is because as the storm went over the warmer waters of the Gulf, it was able to gather some energy and become most likely a subtropical storm. Some meteorologists believe that it even should have had a name, but the bottom line is that the strongest part of the storm ended up over New York and New Jersey, where flooding was more significant. For us it’s mostly been a nuisance wet weekend.
