Year-over-year sales are up at the Massachusetts Lottery and the launch of its long-awaited iLottery brought in thousands of new accounts.
The agency does not yet have a full month of online sales numbers to report for the program that launched July 27, but Executive Director Mark William Bracken said at a Lottery Commission meeting Tuesday that over $110 million has been wagered online since the platform launched.
“We surpassed $100 million in the first 26 days, which makes us faster than any other state when they launched iLottery,” he said. “We’ve had over 160,000 players who already had accounts from our original retail app, they have migrated to full iLottery accounts. We started with about 550,000 original players that had our app, so over a third have already migrated their accounts over to the full iLottery account.”
There has also been over 23,000 new accounts created since iLottery launched, Bracken said, accounting for the Lottery’s largest monthly number since the launch of the app nearly five years ago. Bracken said there has also been over 49,000 first-time depositors.
The Lottery is also in the midst of the highest Megabucks jackpot since the launch of the game over 35 years ago -- sitting at $23.8 million and set to be drawn Wednesday night, Bracken said. He also told the commission that overall unadjusted Lottery sales for July 2026 were up $3.7 million from July 2025.
“Due in part to a $7 million decrease in scratch ticket grand prizes claimed in this July compared to last July — $21 million versus $28 million — our estimated net profit for this July was $80.3 million, compared to $68.8 million in July of last year,” Bracken said. Once adjusted, the year-over-year change between July 2025 and July 2026 was an estimated $14.7 million increase in net profit. The Lottery’s estimated prize payout percentage was 72.71% for July 2026, compared to 75.97% in July 2025, he added.
Bracken said the estimated year-to-date net profit for the first month of the fiscal year is $72.3 million -- an estimated $8 million increase in net profit compared to the first month of fiscal 2026, per the Lottery.
In July, Mega Millions sales were up $5.2 million from July 2025, Megabucks sales were up $3.6 million, Keno sales were up $3 million, Powerball sales were up $3 million and Mass Cash sales were up $1.1 million. Scratch ticket sales were down $11 million from July 2025 and Millionaire for Life sales, Number Game sales and Wheel of Luck sales were also all down.
