Courtrooms are among the institutions that have had to drastically alter how they conduct their day-to-day operations.
We spoke with Anthony Benedetti, chief counsel for the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS), the state agency that provides legal services to those who are unable to afford representation. Benedetti says the pandemic has drastically impacted due process in nearly every aspect of the court system.
Then, we heard from immigration attorney Susan Church about the struggles she's facing defending immigrants during a pandemic. Church said she's being forced to choose between going into court and risk being infected with the coronavirus or participate in hearings over the phone.
