Tonight on Curiosity Live:

  • Late Edition: The WGBH News night team checked in about the latest at the Massachusetts RMV, as a scandal over how they handled driver violations continues to unfold. They also explained how July 2019 earned a place in the record books as our hottest month ever, and why local lobster rolls may soon be even more local.
  • WGBH News reporter Craig Lemoult joined us live from Boston Common, where Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's "Cymbeline" was in progress. Lemoult uncovered what the food vendors really think about the Shakespeare on the Common crowds, and ran into a spectator with an impressive command of Shakespeare's words.
  • Boston city archaeologist Joe Bagley discussed what put a stop to his historic dig in Boston's Chinatown, explained why 18th century bathrooms are goldmines, and shared how a cassette copy of New Edition's 1984 debut album ended up in the city's archaeological collection.
  • The words patriot, malarky, and exonerate were just a few of the words driving people to the dictionary this week. Peter Sokolowski, editor at large for Springfield's Merriam Webster, joined us to explain why. Sokolowki also touched on the delights of reordering the dictionary chronologically, and why the words fascism and socialism continually capture the public's imagination.
