WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Police bomb squads have converged on a Massachusetts church after hand grenades were found in a pile of donated back-to-school items.
Explosives experts with the Worcester police, Massachusetts State Police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were called to St. Bernard’s Church of Our Lady of Providence at midmorning Friday.
Authorities say the grenades turned out to be inert training devices that posed no danger.
Worcester police tweeted that the grenades were discovered while volunteers were organizing school supplies at the church.
The building was sealed off as a precaution but later reopened.
