One of the long-awaited new cars on the MBTA’s Orange Line received another setback when it was hit by graffiti vandals while parked in a train yard in Medford late last week.

The car, which is stainless steel with orange trim, was spray painted in its midsection while parked in the Wellington Yard late Friday night, T spokesman Joe Pesaturo said. MBTA police are investigating.

The car is one of 14 delivered so far in an order of 152 being assembled in Springfield by Chinese rail manufacturer CRRC. They're being tested on the line but have not been put into passenger service yet.

Pesaturo said the graffiti, which will be removed this week, will not affect the timetable for the cars to begin carrying passengers, which is scheduled for sometime this summer.
