The highest court in Massachusetts has upheld the main convictions of two brothers who tried to scam a compensation fund for Boston Marathon bombing victims out of $2 million.

The Supreme Judicial Court in its ruling issued Friday upheld larceny and conspiracy convictions against Branden Mattier and his half brother, Domunique Grice. The court vacated Mattier's identify fraud conviction.

Prosecutors say the men used the name of a dead aunt and falsely claimed she lost both legs in the April 15, 2013, bombing in their claim to The One Fund Boston.

Both men were sentenced to three years in prison.

The court found that Mattier's submission of a forged doctor's letter was deceitful, but did not constitute identity fraud. The court said its decision is unlikely to affect his sentence.
