Two men have been formally charged by the US Attorney’s Office in Boston with conspiring to commit acts of terrorism on behalf of ISIS.
The charges against David Wright of Everett and Nicholas Rovinski, of Warwick, Rhode Island are in connection with an alleged plot to provide material support for terrorism.
Wright’s uncle, Usaamah Abdullah Rahim, was shot and killed by police last June in Roslindale after allegedly trying to attack law enforcement officers. The government says the men conspired with Rahim to kidnap and decapitate Pamela Geller, a controversial anti-Islamic campaigner in New York. Police were also targeted.
Rahim was reportedly receiving instructions from a well known ISIS operative in Syria. Rahim in turn relayed those instructions to the two suspects. Since his arrest, Rovinski has written letters to Wright from prison discussing ways to take down the U.S. government and non-believers, according to the indictment.
If found guilty of conspiracy, the suspects could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison.
