Update, 6:20 p.m.: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has announced Boston Public Schools will be closed on Friday due to the imminent snowstorm.
The city announced the Boston Public Works Department would have 500 trucks treating the streets with 40,000 tons of salt ahead of the storm. The city's two new truck-mounted snowblowers will also be put to use clearing the roads.

Sure, it may feel like June now, but you likely have some shoveling and a messy commute to look forward to in the morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for southern New England, saying "heavy, wet" snow is on the way early Friday morning, from 1 to 3 a.m. The warning covers most of the Greater Boston Area, out to Worcester, Brockton and all the way down to Providence.
The NWS is warning of "hazardous travel" for the morning commute.
The NWS says we could get anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snow, with the highest snowfall totals falling along I-95.
Rain is expected to begin Thursday night before turning over to snow.
