Threats to the Los Angeles and New York City school systems. One shut down, the other did not. Who got it right? Is this the new reality? Should parents be afraid? A pair of security experts, former Watertown Police Chief Ed Deveau (@EdwardPDeveau) and Security Mom Juliette Kayyem (@juliettekayyem), discuss.
Both Kayyem and Deveau agreed that the New York threat was handled properly, while Los Angeles was not. Kayyem said, "processes broke down in Los Angeles." And Deveau stated, "New York...they've been through this a lot."
Both also agreed that children should be trained at school for active shooter situations. "These kids know what's going on," said Kayyem. She suggested, "giving them these kinds of skills." Deveau said, "We have to have them prepared for the future."
