The Boston Police Department has assigned additional units to patrol Boston-area mosques in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks.

In recent years, Muslims have been the target of hate crimes following radical Islamic inspired terrorism attacks. At a Sunday press conference, Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans said his force was working to make sure that does not happen in his city.

"We’ve done a lot of outreach over the last two days to a lot of our partners, both in and around the city as well as the Islamic Center that is located across the street," he said.

Yusufi Vali, the director of the Islamic Society of Boston, said it’s a gesture that is well appreciated.

"Right after things happened in Paris the BPD reached out and said, 'Are you guys getting any threats, you have any concerns?'" Vali said.

Vali said there was an act of vandalism at the Center over the weekend but it was not a hate crime, but rather, he said, graffiti and kids being kids.
