President Barack Obama has nominated former MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott to a top federal transportation post.
Dr. Beverly Scott left the MBTA after this winter’s horrendous weather and worse transit service. Now, Obama has tapped Scott for a spot on the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Board investigates dangerous transportation incidents, conducts safety studies and assists victims of accidents. The panel is charged with providing the government with safety recommendations after investigating automobile, rail and aviation accidents.
Over the last 25 years, Scott has held numerous positions in several state and city transit agencies across the country and was a member on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council.
Gov. Charlie Baker wouldn’t say he supports Obama’s pick, but will give Scott the benefit of the doubt.
“As I said, I think she’s got a long track record in public transportation and I wish her well.”
Scott’s nomination needs Senate approval before she could begin a five-year term.
