Former gubernatorial candidate Evan Falchuk joined BPR to talk about his campaign to get an Olympic question on the 2016 Massachusetts ballot. Falchuk ran for governor on the United Independent Party ticket. Now he’s pressing for a guarantee that no taxpayer money will be spent on the Olympics, should they come to Boston.
“This isn’t looking good. This looks like an [opportunity] for a lot of politically-connected people to ram something through,” Falchuck said. “There’s a lot of money to be made with this thing.”
Falchuck said in his view the Boston 2024 organization hasn’t been proactive about crafting a ballot question to ensure taxpayers aren’t liable for Olympic cost overruns.
“They’ve said that they want to have a vote November 2016,” Falchuck said. “They’ve got until August, in August you can formally submit things to the Attorney General’s office.”
“The question we want to ask Boston 2024 is, What do you want people to vote on? What’s your proposed law? What does it look like?”
