UPDATED 1/27/15: 10:22 am Plows are heading back out on the airfield at Logan Airport, after having been called in this morning because of the harsh conditions.
MassPort officials decided this morning they had to pull the plowing crews off runways and taxiways. Ed Freni, the director of aviation for Massport, explained: “It was zero visibility, the winds had spooled up. A large band of snow came through. We don’t want to leave equipment out there, you know, on the edge of the shore line, ten thousand foot runways, you know, trying to plow in a dangerous situation. We don’t want to put our crews in danger, so we brought them in.”

Conditions were so harsh at Logan Airport this morning that crews were unable to plow.

Freni says he hopes to have them back out on the tarmac later this morning.
There are two crews of 30 people who have been working to keep at least one runway clear, as well as a path to and from that runway. That is the first priority. When that’s accomplished, work on the rest of the airfield will begin.
Freni expects Logan be clear by the time the airlines are ready to resume service late Wednesday morning
