Republican Governor-elect Charlie Baker and Democrat Martha Coakley receive a B- grade on their campaigns  from Dr. Erin O’Brien,  Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science at UMass Boston, who spoke Friday with WGBH Morning Edition host Bob Seay.

The Massachusetts Governor's office has switched parties for the first time since Mitt Romney was elected in 2002.

In looking at the future of democratic party in the state, O'Brien says  with a new Senate President coming in, possibly democrat Stan Rosenberg of Amherst, and House Speaker Bob DeLeo keeping his position, state democrats will maintain their stronghold.

O'Brien says it's good that Baker agrees bi-partisanship is the path of least resistance  saying, "even though there were republican gains in the house and the senate, if Baker doesn't work in a bi-partisan way, nothing is getting done."

O'Brien says Baker will most likely appoint moderate democrats to his administration, but strongly believes Republican Richard Tisei, who emerged as an "all-star," despite his loss in the sixth congressional district, may be part of a Baker administration.
