Violent crime wasn't an issue that was front and center during the Boston preliminary mayoral race, but it’s one that is constantly simmering.
Some 80 percent of violent crimes take place in Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan. While crime affects the psyche and reputation of the entire city, it hits the neighborhoods where it happens hardest. Now the problem will be in new hands.
