Snow clogged roads have made for a messy, slow commute on Friday morning, and several temporary driving rules are in place along the state’s highways, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
A 40 mile-per-hour speed limit is in effect on much of the Massachusetts Turnpike, from interchange 1 at the New York border until interchange 11A in Millbury, according to MassDOT spokeswoman Sara Lavoie. Exit ramp 14 on Interstate 93 in Boston is closed because of flooding on Morrissey Boulevard.
The high-occupancy-vehicle lane did not open, either. The transportation department has 2,639 pieces of equipment on the roads statewide that have been out all night.
Two lanes have been closed on the Turnpike westbound in Russell because of a jackknifed tractor trailer, Lavoie said.
The central part of the state is expected to receive 10 to 14 inches of snow, and strong winds are expected in coastal areas, according to the National Weather Service, which has a winter storm warning in effect until 1 p.m. Friday.
MassDOT has advised drivers to be patient and to consider public transportation.
