On Wednesday, former Natick Town Meeting member Suzanne Ianni became the latest Massachusetts resident to plead guilty to crimes related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. She’s one of eight Massachusetts residents who have been charged a year and a half later, and faces a maximum of six months in prison and five years’ probation.

Soon after the riot, a petition went live to dismiss Ianni from her position in the Natick Town Meeting. It has since garnered over 1,700 signatures. Natick Select Board chairman Jonathan Freedman told The Boston Globe last year that there was no way to remove an active member from the 180-member governing body. Ianni’s term expired in March.

Ianni is a co-founder of Super Happy Fun America, a group best known for organizing Boston’s Straight Pride Parade in 2019. An online fundraiser set up for her legal fees last year describes Ianni and co-founder Mark Sahady, of Malden, as “patriotic Americans who are facing a legal battle due to peacefully attending the rally in Washington, DC on January 6th.”

Ianni admitted that she entered the Capitol without permission and “willfully and knowingly uttered loud, threatening, or abusive language, or engaged in disorderly or disruptive conduct with the intent to impede, disrupt, or disturb the orderly conduct of a session of Congress,” according to a Statement of Offense submitted in U.S. District Court.
