One in nine children in Massachusetts don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Many of these are low-income students who have long relied on the federal program providing free or reduced lunch. But that doesn’t cover the kids who arrive at school hungry because they haven’t had breakfast, something researchers say is crippling their ability to learn. Now one of the state’s best known anti-hunger advocacy organizations has joined a bipartisan group of legislators to push for a bill that would require schools to offer breakfast for several hours after students arrive.

Guests:
Erin McAleer – President of Project Bread, a Massachusetts-based anti-hunger nonprofit organization.

Andy Vargas – Massachusetts State Representative for the Third Essex District and co-sponsor of the Breakfast After the Bell bill.
