With The Boston Globe leading the charge, around 400 newspapers and other outlets put out editorials pushing back on the president’s assertion that the press is the “enemy of the people.” Was it effective or did it give Trump more ammunition?

This week’s Beat the Press panel was divided.

"I think it was great for the Globe," said Joanna Weiss of Experience Magazine at Northeastern University, and a former "Globie" herself. "They've actually played this in a very Trumpian way."

"We're not going to shift anyone's opinion," said former CNN White House Correspondent Dan Lothian. "The best defense is to just stick to good journalism. Let the good journalism speak for itself."

"Why be part of the noise?," Lothian asked.

Adam Reilly, in for Emily Rooney, was joined by Joanna Weiss of Experience Magazine at Northeastern University, former CNN White House Correspondent Dan Lothian, Dan Kennedy of Northeastern University and Lylah Alphonse of U.S. News and World Report.
