North Korea Summit Heavy On Promises, Light On Detail

After the handshake seen around the world between President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, the two leaders ultimately signed a pledge committing both nations to peace, security and the full denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The agreement was, however, short on details about how and when that might happen. And when Trump pledged to halt joint military exercises with South Korea, some raised concerns that he might be giving up too much, too soon, putting too much faith in a regime that has reneged on past promises to shut down its nuclear program.

Carol Savietz, a senior advisor at MIT’s Security Studies Program, and Jim Walsh, a senior research associate at MIT’s Security Studies Program, who has been involved in past nuclear discussions in Iran and North Korea, joined Adam Reilly to discuss.
