Harvard filed a brief Friday in federal court in Boston that is challenging a lawsuit that claims the Ivy League school discriminates against Asian-American applicants.
In the brief, Harvard’s lawyers say the lawsuit filed by the group Students for Fair Admissions “is not a serious effort” but a "45-page press release devoted to presenting a misleading narrative.”
Specifically, Harvard points out flaws in the group’s conclusion that the college systematically rates Asian-American applicants lower on intangible personality traits like courage and kindness.
Harvard says the group excluded important information to reach the result it desired and the evidence fails to show that the college could achieve the same level of diversity without considering race.
The trial is set to begin October 15.
