Today is a trifecta for Boston area sports fans, who will need multiple devices to stay on top of their hometown teams. Three of Boston’s professional sports teams — the Red Sox, the Patriots and the Bruins — are all in action today.
The last time all three teams played on the same day was October 30, 2013.
Today the Red Sox open their AL East division series against the Astros in Houston, the Patriots are in Tampa for a prime-time game against the Buccaneers, and the Bruins host the Nashville Predators this evening.
Peter Roby, athletic director at Northeastern University and a former men’s basketball head coach at Harvard University, says with all three teams playing on the same day, “it’s like a kid in a candy store."
The Red Sox game's first pitch is scheduled for just after 4 p.m., the Bruins game gets underway at 7 p.m., and the NFL kick-off in Tampa is scheduled for 8:25 p.m.
“The good news is you can watch the Sox at 4 o’clock ... then transition into the Bruins opener, then later the Pats are on," says Roby. "So you can integrate your way into the whole thing.”
