Reservoirs in northwest Houston have spilled over due to Hurricane Harvey's historic rainfall, flooding nearby subdivisions and forcing residents to evacuate. Officials warn it may only get worse, despite the fact that Harvey has moved out of the area.

Kevin Quinn has lived in Houston since 1983 and he tells WGBH News that much of the city's emergency infrastructure dates back decades and wasn’t built to handle the strength of a storm like Harvey.

Quinn, a native of the Northeast with family and friends living in the Boston area, has a house five miles north of the two big reservoirs in Houston. His area remains dry, but he has invited friends who are flooded out to stay with him.

“I think I’m safe for now. Our whole neighborhood is safe for now.”

At our last update, Quinn said the bayou behind his house is 90 percent full and the water is rushing.
