Filmmaker, writer and director John Waters has a piece of advice for artists, graduates, and anyone seeking happiness and success on their own terms: Make trouble.
Waters, known best as the vision behind "Pink Flamingos," "Serial Mom" and "Hairspray," and the author of "Carsick" and "Role Models," was invited to give the 2015 commencement speech at the Rhode Island School of Design. Waters told the graduates to embrace rejection, count their blessings and "go out into the world and f**k it up beautifully."
Waters wrapped his remarks up into a "bookette," accompanied by illustrations by Eric Hanson. Waters joined Jim Braude and Margery Eagan on Boston Public Radio to chat about the new book, his spoken-word tours across the country, and his life spent doing what he loves "without ever having to get a real job."
