General Electric's upcoming move to Boston won't mark the first time that the company has had a major presence in Massachusetts. For years, it manufactured generators at its former facilities in Pittsfield. GE is responsible for the cleanup of the nearby Housatonic River, where it dumped carcinogenic byproducts. As the river's restoration continues, GE is resisting a push from the Environmental Protection Agency to ship toxins dredged from the Housatonic out of state -- the company says the waste can be stored locally, in the Berkshires. WGBH All Things Considered host Barbara Howard spoke with Tim Gray of the Housatonic River Initiative about GE and this latest chapter in its cleanup of the river.
