Motion Picture Access (MoPix®)

The Rear Window® Captioning and DVS Theatrical® Systems– collectively known as Motion Picture Access or MoPix®– enable millions of people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision to enjoy first-run theatrical films on the day of release, and during regular screenings. Over 350 systems are installed in North America, and over 100 films are made accessible by the WGBH’s Media Access Group every year.

Project Funding

Early development and evaluation of MoPix systems was funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), U.S. Department of Education, under grant #H133G40048. Installation of equipment in theaters and captioning and description of films is funded entirely by the private sector.
