Jon Campbell who died on January 9th, was a true treasure in the thriving Rhode Island folk community. A songwriter, poet, singer, fisherman, piper, and artist. His work was particularly connected with the area of Block Island, and Point Judith. He was funny, quirky, and truly singular.
We created this tribute to Jon with much input as you will hear, from his friend, singer Robbie O'Connell who, after many years living in Bristol, Rhode Island, has moved back to Ireland. Robbie now lives in Co. Waterford.
In the segment, we hear some of Jon's recordings, and a cover of his song The Prettiest Girl in New York by the folk duo, Katzberg and Snyder.
Jon Campbell was inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2019.
